Detra Johnson-Clark

Detra Johnson-Clark is the Co-Owner of Choices Management Company and Co-Founder of Creative Minds Charter Arts and Science School.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Detra has always had a passion for helping others and giving back to the community. During her time at Temple University, Detra studied Psychology, but her work has always had her dealing more with man, than his mind. For the majority of her career, Detra has done public relations, event planning, product placement, even some studio work with record industry pros, all the while rubbing elbows with major celebrities, and working with national organizations to accomplish their event goals.

Detra started her career, in the music industry, as an assistant to the world-famous DJ Jazzy Jeff at A Touch of Jazz (ATOJ) Studios. There, Detra had the chance to learn engineering, producing and song writing. It was also where she met the co-founders of Creative Minds Charter Arts and Science School, Carvin Haggins and Carol Riddick.

After 3 years at ATOJ, Detra left the company to work for Michael Harris Consultants, as the Director of Special Events, Marketing, and Promotions. In that position, Detra was introduced to the world of professional sports and fashion. She planned and facilitated celebrity events for FUBU Platinum in Philadelphia, Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Johnson, Super Bowl Champ Ray Crockett, Baltimore Ravens’ Ray Lewis, former NFL players Jerome Bettis, Bobby Taylor and Hollis Thomas, former NBA star Allen Iverson, former WNBA player Rhonda Mapp, and Heavyweight Champion Michael Grant. Detra also worked with Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Akademics, Big Daddy Clothing, and FUBU, to make sure their products were worn by celebrities, and highly visible at all times. Also at that time, Detra was hand-picked to be the wardrobe consultant for “Train Ride,” a movie written and produced by Rel Dowdell.

With a variety of entertainment and public relations experience under her belt, Detra branched out and created her own consulting company called Phenom Entertainment. She continued her work with celebrities and well known brands, but she added Hush Puppies to her list of clients, and began consulting major organizations such as the NFL Professional Players Mothers’ Association, and the NBA. Detra was a Jam Session Manager during NBA All-Star Weekend 1997.

After taking a 10 year break from business to spend time with her family, Detra is excited about getting back to work. Detra has partnered with her husband, Dr. David Clark, Jr., to start Choices Management Company, an education consulting company. As the Director of Public Relations and Marketing for Choices, Detra is looking forward to working with her extended family in sports and entertainment, to make a difference in the lives of inner city kids through education and the arts. She is also the publicist for Grammy Award-Winning Songwriter and Producer, Carvin Haggins, and manager for Ethical Music Entertainment Artist “The Fresh Princess” BriaMarie.

Detra strongly believes it is her purpose in life to help others, and that her faith is what will cause her to succeed. One of her favorite scriptures is Phillipians 4:13 - “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” In her free time, Detra enjoys volunteering at her sons’ Jaiden and Mekhi’s school, and spending time with loved ones. Detra is a member of Southern Baptist Church in Philadelphia.
